Title: Pears Poached in Amaretto

2 C water
1 C sugar
4 - large ripe Bosc pears, peeled, quartered, and cored
2 - cinnamon sticks
3 - whole cloves
1/2 C amaretto liqueur
2 T slivered almonds, toasted

In a large saucepan heat the water and sugar over medium heat, stirring. Add the pears, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, until the pears are just tender 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the amaretto and simmer, covered, another 2 minutes.

With a slotted spoon, transfer the pears to a serving platter. Strain the poaching liquid into a small saucepan and reduce over medium-high heat to one cup (about 10 minutes). Pour the syrup evenly over the pears and sprinkle with almonds.
